In the run-up to the exhibition project “I is another” (1995) at Kunstwerke, Berlin, some artists gave themselves fictitious biographies and working contexts, in exchange with colleagues living in Germany or abroad.

Within this framework, Hinrich Sachs projected the Icelandic Gísli Friðfinsson publishing house and developed its first annual program of new publications. From the typological cover design, which
uses images of children, to the series of titles, some of which are translated first editions of historical or current books, the group of five book cover designs addresses various questions about cultural context, information flow and cultural imprinting.

Gísli Friðfinsson Forlag. New Releases 1995 was exhibited a
few times in the second half of the 1990s. In retrospect, the work appears to be an example of a conceptual practice that raises questions about the (global) flow of information and inclusion
and exclusion that extend into the realm of publishing.
